Where's the Beef
.....you figure it out. Was I being kinky or just at a loss of a title. Ha I'll never tell.
I know I suck at posting. It's been pretty crazy since getting back from vacation.
We got back on a Sunday From New York. Monday I was in School for my job. A week before my vacation they told me they thought I was ready to become a communications training officer. So I and another girl from our PD went to a week long class to get the basics for being a trainer. I get my first trainee on July 7. I'm excited to share my skills and knowledge with her and hopefully help her become a good dispatcher.
Get back to work a week later, and there is an envelope in my box, it's a letter my boss wrote nominating me for Texas dispatcher of the year. I was in shock. The call she used was a great call, but I guess I was so happy at the out come of the call I never thought it would be good enough for a nomination.
During all this one night a 10 year old boy had called 911 for his very very sick mother. He was home all alone with her and she was in bad shape. He did what every mother should practice practice practice with their child for dialing 911. He was so calm, gave me all the information I needed. After I got everything, he then broke down and cried. I kept him on the phone till ambulance and a police officer got there to help him and his mom. I was so proud of him that myself and my boss put him in for a child 911 hero award. Made a big deal of it. He and his mom and some other family came to the city council meeting, he wasn't told why he was there, so he gets called up front, (2 tv news crews and several newspapers were there) The whole on duty fire department fellas were there, several police officers to include the chief of police, myself, my boss and my lead dispatcher. We all went up front with him. He was awarded a placque from the county, a placque from our city, I hung a 911 hero medal on him, he also got a tee shirt and a 911 back pack with all kinds of pressies in it. (Snuck in there was a gift certificate for Incredible Pizza, that's a place like Chuckie Cheese only bigger and better) He was interviewed on the evening news, on two different channels. YAYYYYY I'm glad I could be part of recognizing a kiddo who did good. To many times we only see the bad thing they do!!!!
Also got a call from my boss a few days ago at about 07:30 she's like did I wake you up, I hope I woke you up. (I get off at 7 am takes me 30 minutes to drive home, if I was sleeping my car was on auto pilot) She couldn't contain herself any more, She's like you WON the award!!!!!!!! I dropped the phone. I guess the letter along with a copy of the call she nominated me for when it went before the committee they told her that every round mine was always passed through right to the top. At the end mine was voted by unanmious vote. WOW! I feel so humbled. There are like only 10 people given this award for the entire state, and people if you look at your map Texas is a big state.
Last thing to bore you with. Scuba Elf and I went to a bird show a couple weeks ago. Needed to get his bird a new cage. Was looking at all the birds he had for sale there. Little birds, big birds, medium birds. He had blue and gold macaws there. I used to have one that I let go to a zoo, I know it was good for her but it has always felt like a mistake. (She had been caught in the wild and smuggled over in a tire weld) I rescued her from the owners after the man she bonded with died and the family stuck her in a corner and ignored her. So anyway looking at the birds and he has babies. Like 4 inches long bald and bug eyed. Elf says you want a bird, I was like yah but it's alot of money. Elf then asks the guy will you take payments and if we buy 2 cages and a bird what kind of deal will you give us. They worked out such a good deal that we got the 2 cages and the baby baby bird for much less then just a bird would normally cost. About same as what one cage would normally run. So that's my birthday, anniversary, congratulations present. We can't pick the baby up until End of August. But I'm excited. I'm looking for people to send ideas for bird names. Come on folks, if I let the police officers name it, it's gonna be a retarded name. The only cool names we have right now is Loki (Nordic God of Mischief) and Sammy. That or I'm gonna have to call it soup or something. :-)
Help a sister out here.
Have a good day.

Congratulations, Alekx, and well done. I now know another true hero. Have you been fitted for a new dive mask, yet? I mean, your head has to be so big that you need a new mask. I wish I could have seen the look on the kids face. Can you show any of the news video?

Did you get another macaw? I LOVE parrots...We have four birds already, but if I had my way, we would have a cockatoo. Umbrella. Maybe I would call it Rhianna. Dunno.
Congrats on the award. I often wonder how you can stay soo calm in the midst of a tragedy/accident/whatever. Yay for you and the lil guy that won the prize :)

I tried commenting last week and blogger flipped me a "raspberry" (waves her fist wildly at the monitor) Blogger can be so rude & cruel sometimes!
I beleive you've found your life's calling (no pun intended) your talents, resolve, and compassionate sensibilities line up perfectly to the job - those that hired you were wise to place you there...a stop gap place where you can both grow and lift others...while making a positive difference in the world at large - that which we know is not always fair.
Well Done!
Well Done!
Well Done!
Beaming smile - just for you... =)
